Solid wood laying

Solid board laying

General requirements

Solid wood boards are one of the most durable flooring materials made from solid hardwood or softwood. It is exclusively the final stage of repair in the room. Wooden material for your interior will serve perfectly for decades.

A massive board will organically fit into any interior, as wood is a chic building material that adds sophistication to any room. In order to minimize the risk of damage and to ensure a high guarantee of the performance of the floor covering, a quality installation is essential.

Installation of the floor from massive boards should be started after the completion of all repair work, such as installing doors and windows, leveling the walls, wet cleaning, etc., - in general, after preparing the floor for installation. Flooring should be carried out exclusively on top of a dry coating. According to the requirements of the technology, the following points about humidity can be noted:

  • for concrete panels located between floors, the permissible moisture content is not more than 4%;
  • the humidity percentage of the cement screed should not exceed 6%.

Preparation of bases for laying massive boards

The technological process of laying can be carried out in different rooms. Implemented in various mounting methods:

  • on wooden floors (chipboard, plywood, logs);
  • floating (on self-tapping screws, brackets);
  • reinforced concrete floor (on a screed and plywood substrate, screed and logs);
  • on an adhesive backing.

Laying a massive board on a screed

Usually, a wooden floor is installed on concrete or a “black” floor laid on logs. Laying a massive board on a screed is the most common option. The following characteristics must be present in the concrete structure: smoothness, absence of cracks, dry, uniform. Before starting this work, you need to make sure of the quality and reliability of the screed.

Use a perforator to make several holes in different parts of the base. The relative dampness of the samples should be at least 6%. It is important to check the dampness of the "soil" of a room or office, the location of which is in the basement or on the lower tier of the building. First, if necessary, a waterproofing cover of the concrete floor is performed.

Laying on plywood

All work that requires the use of moisture must be completed before laying plywood sheets. The thickness of the base for mounting a massive plate on plywood should be 12-15 cm. For high-quality adhesion, plywood is primed with a special primer. Subsequently, wooden plates are laid out on glue or mastic and, in addition, reinforced with self-tapping screws.

After laying the plywood sheets, the base is sanded and cleaned. In order to avoid changing its type of base, moisture content should be 8-10%. Process disturbances can cause the coating to warp or discolor. This case is easily facilitated by the excess moisture content of the base, its clogging or insufficiently dried base.

Preparing parquet boards for laying

One of the important stages of high-quality flooring is the need to unpack the parquet boards and keep them indoors for about a week (5-7 days). It is advisable to lay the boards on stands so that they grind sufficient access to air.

An essential requirement is the completion of all wet work. By following all the instructions, you will create conditions where the microclimate and moisture content of wooden plates will come into line. The humidity of the blanks should be 6-12%.

Solid parquet installation

For laying the array, glue is required, excluding its water base. Since excess liquid will only harm the tree. In addition, you need to strengthen the plates with special nails or self-tapping screws (2-3 per meter).

Additionally, specialists fix the board with nails, while leaving gaps between the wall and the parquet flooring (8-10 mm). A gap of 1-2 cm is reserved between the parquet flooring and the wall.

Competent performance of work does not require grinding of the coating. The presence of errors is carried out by a process called grinding an array of boards and scraping it. After grinding, perfect smoothness, without height differences is guaranteed.

Next, the floor is washed, and the final step is to cover it with varnish (also, at the request of the customer, it is possible with wax or toner) in three or four layers. In order for the parquet flooring to serve you for a long-term operation, we recommend using polyurethane-based varnishes.

After some time, namely after a day, as the final varnish layer was applied, the floor can be loaded with light loads. From three to five days, the varnish dries completely, thereby giving reliability to the floor covering. Until completely dry, it is not advisable to moisten the floor, and even more so to place furnishings such as furniture or lay carpets.
